Heart Reset for the New Year

Lam Kok Hiang December 9, 2024

As we close the year 2024, let us take some time to selah, to pause and renew ourselves for the new year. I would like to share five prayers/affirmations as we step into 2025. These five prayers/affirmations serve as our commitments on how we live out our calling as Christ-followers, come what may.

Lord, may I be/stay holy.

“You must be holy because I, the LORD, am holy. I have set you apart from all other people to be my very own” (Leviticus 20:26, NLT). Holiness is a lifelong journey of being set apart, shaped by our singular pursuit of God and our desire to reflect His holy character.

Lord, may I fear You all the days of my life.

"Whoever fears the LORD has a secure fortress,  and for their children it will be a refuge" (Proverbs 14:26, NIV). Having a reverential fear of the Lord leads us to live wisely so that our children may find refuge and security in Him. It helps us to stay on the right path.

Lord, may I not forget You.

"Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day” (Deuteronomy 8:11, NIV). In Psalm 105-106, we are reminded that forgetting the Lord’s goodness towards us is a sure path to a sinful life. We must remember and recall His mercy, grace and faithfulness. Do not take God for granted.

Lord, may I always be thankful.

"You are my God, and I will praise you;  you are my God, and I will exalt you. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures for ever” (Psalm 118:28-29, NIV). Let us cultivate a heart of gratitude, and give thanks even when things are not going well. Giving thanks is an expression of our trust in God.

Lord, may I always have hope in You.

"As for me, I will always have hope;  I will praise you more and more” (Proverbs 14:26, NIV). (Psalm 71:14, NIV). When things go awry and life takes an unexpected turn, and cause us to struggle for answers, may we cling on to the hope that we have in God as we navigate the storms of life.

Each new year offers an opportunity to hit the reset button, to rededicate ourselves and get our priorities right. Sometimes, a hard reset may be needed because our hearts have become cluttered with many things that distract and derail us from our calling and destiny.

We reset our hearts to follow God wholeheartedly and love Him unreservedly. “And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength” (Mark 12:30, NLT).

Sending you and your loved ones with this prayer:

“Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers” (3 John 2, NASB).
