Turning Crisis into Opportunity

September 2, 2024

In the Chinese language, the word 'crisis' or ‘危机’, is composed of two characters. One represents danger (危) and the other denotes opportunity (机).

That is what God has done in and through WOW MOM during the COVID-19 pandemic. Social distancing, circuit breaker, home-based learning, and working from home have pushed the stress of many mommies to the brim. From 2020 to 2023, 166 mothers reached out to WOW MOM, seeking solace and support in unprecedented times. Our community nearly doubled in size in just four years, from 55 to 106 moms. We are immensely grateful for the emergence of new leaders within our midst to take on more moms.

Ezer and Audrey

Audrey joined WOW MOM in 2021 while she was expecting her first child. “As a new mother, I was struggling and at a loss most of the time, lacking a supportive community of mothers to rely on or learn from. It was then that God sent WOW MOM and Ezer into my midst and her ministry has truly blessed me. She has inspired me to be a 'mother after God’s heart'. ”

3rd run of Healthy Mom, Happy Home

WOW MOM launched the "Healthy Mom, Happy Home" series during the pandemic. Through four runs of the “Healthy Mom, Happy Home” series in 2022 and 2023, and various small group outreaches, we have reached out to 308 moms and eight of them accepted Christ!

Christine invited Jazz* to the first run. Jazz only managed to attend once due to her husband’s sudden illness. Discovering Jazz’s struggle, Christine and her church community rallied around the couple, eventually leading them to accept Christ with their pastor in the hospital's intensive care unit. After some time, Jazz’s husband passed away. Despite the loss of her husband, Jazz finds ongoing support and companionship from Christine and the WOW MOM group as she navigates widowhood.

In hindsight, we can see that God orchestrated every twist and turn of the pandemic, turning the crisis into an opportunity for evangelism and discipleship. Pandemic or not, we are to be faithful to God's calling, that is, to nurture moms as godly wives and mothers by affirming their worth in Christ and equipping them to help fulfill the Great Commission in their families and beyond.
