God's love for us is deep and personal. Through His Spirit, He enters into the places of our pain. Only He is capable of bringing joy, strength, and endurance in the face of the worst of calamities.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German scholar and theologian, denounced the Nazis as evil and became a potent voice in the German resistance. In 1943, the Nazis arrested Bonhoeffer and incarcerated him in a Nazi concentration camp. On a Sunday morning, after leading a worship service, he was hanged. The camp's liberation by the Allied forces was only days away, but not in time to save Bonhoeffer's life. As he was being taken to the gallows, the scholar remarked to an English prisoner of war, "This is the end, but for me the beginning of life."

Any believer who walks in the Spirit should enjoy that kind of peace. And no believer should ever be controlled by anxiety, for an overmastering anxiety is a symptom of being out of step with the Spirit.
They can take away all our possessions. They can even take away our physical life. But they can never take away the most precious attainment we have, which is our living relationship with God. To know that is to be empowered.
