Support-raising FAQ

How will I be paid?

Cru is a faith-based mission organisation. This means that full-time staff members, including the President of Cru, have the responsibility to mobilise a team of ministry partners to pray and give for their personal ministry.

This is called "support-raising", a common practice among many mission organisations. It is also known as MPD (Ministry Partner Development) in Cru.

What is the biblical basis for support-raising?

Raising support is rooted in the Old and New Testament. For example, the churches of Philippi supported the Apostle Paul (Phil. 1:3-5, 4:10-19) through financial gifts.

What will the support (funds) raised cover?

Each staff member raises support to cover the following:

  • Salary
  • Benefits (hospital and surgical plan, term life insurance, medical and dental, etc.)
  • Ministry-related expenses (training, ministry materials, communication with ministry partners, conferences, retreats, etc.)
  • Employer CPF Contribution

When an applicant is accepted as a staff member, he/she is assigned an MPD coach who coaches them all the way through the completion of raising the needed support.

How much support do I have to raise?

The amount is dependent on factors such as one's qualifications, relevant experience etc.. You will need to email hr@cru.org.sg for more information.

Will I be trained to raise own support?

Yes, you will be trained upon acceptance.

A coach will also be assigned to help you through the process. While this person will not be raising the support for you, he/she will give you weekly instruction and encouragement along the way.

Can I start ministry without full support raised?

This will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

What if I have student loans or other debts?

Being in debt does not automatically disqualify you from serving as a Cru staffer.

Our salary package is constantly reviewed to allow fresh graduates the ability to finance his/her student loan debts.

Can I raise support needs before acceptance?

Please do not share your support needs until you have been interviewed and accepted on staff.

You may share that you are applying to join Cru Singapore, awaiting the interview, and if accepted, you will need to raise your own financial support (for support-raising positions)

How to give to a staff/ministry?

Your gift is crucial to our work in reaching the nations with the love of Christ.
