#FallingPlates Share Parties

“Effective evangelism is taking the initiative to share the gospel by the power of the Holy Spirit and leaving the result to God” - Dr. Bill Bright

“Only two percent of believers in America regularly share their faith in Christ with others.”

In other words, the ordinary Christian will never “share their faith” in their lifetime, but in today’s digital age, almost everyone is comfortable with sharing media/video. This is why #FallingPlates was created.

Hosting a #FallingPlates Share Party is a great way for a group to join together and to engage friends in spiritual conversations. Think of it as a digital outreach.

We are encouraged by your desire to share the gospel online. If you have awesome persuasive powers in inviting friends, then you can host your own Share Party. Invite as many as you can: churchmates, relatives, significant other, disciples.

The Venue: We recommend you find a comfortable place with good wireless internet. Depending on the size of your group, you can have the Share Party at your church, in a living room for that homey feel, or a coffee shop.

Gadgets: Ask everyone to bring any of the following: laptop, cellphone, tablet.

You can use texting, email or whatever Social Media you prefer – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.

Watch this brief video celebrating what happened at a recent Share Party:

Here’s how it works.

1. Prepare your hearts

Start with prayer. Ask God to fill you with the power of the Holy Spirit and surrender the results of the day to Him. Pray specifically that God would lay on your heart which people He wants you to share with and trust Him to lead you into significant spiritual conversations.

Take turns praying as a group for what the Lord wants to do in and through you as you step out in faith.

2. Message specific friends

Start by sharing it with specific friends. Send them a personalized message you think will get them to want to watch the initial video. It could be as simple as:

Hey _____! I just saw this video and was wondering what you would think of it. It’s only 4 minutes. Watch it and let me know what you think? http://www.fallingplates.com

For pre-written message suggestions, see the table on Share #FallingPlates Page.

We recommend sharing <www.FallingPlates.com> with about 30 friends. Take breaks after every 10 or so names and talk as a group about different approaches you can try, ways to be creative and to pray for each other. And remember, it’s a Share Party, so make sure to have fun.

3. Post the link or picture to Instagram / Facebook / Snapchat / Twitter

You may want to reach out to an even broader audience than your immediate friends, so have everyone at the Share Party post it to their various Social Media channels.

Personalize your message however you like and be creative. You can even share it with them in many languages.

As people like or comment about your post, make sure you reply back to everyone who responds to you.

4. Ask follow-up questions

The goal of sharing the video is to start the conversation. So as people interact with you, be ready to engage them in some follow-up questions. Here are a few ideas:

  • What was your favorite part?

  • Which picture stuck out to you the most?

  • What was the most interesting part for you?

  • When I saw this, I thought ________. What did you think?

  • Have you ever felt like you’re searching for something?

  • What do you think you are searching for right now?

  • Where are you on the journey of following Jesus?

You probably don’t need to ask more than two. These are merely a way to transition into more spiritual topics.

5. Tools for spiritual conversations

As your sharing about your own faith, you can be ready with some additional content to help you express what you believe. Here are a few recommendations:

6. Continue the conversation

Regardless of how your friends respond, it’s a good idea to talk to them about it the next time you see it. Bring it up in casual conversation. If you don’t regularly see them or they don’t live near you, consider sending them a follow-up message a few days after the Share Party. Again, keep it simple:

  • What did you think of that #FallingPlates video I sent you?

  • Sometime, I’d love to talk more about this. I’m free this afternoon if you’re available.

  • I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts and I’d love to get your opinion on what it is I believe about this question Jesus asks in the video, “Will you follow me?” Could I share a bit with you and you can tell me what you think?

7. Tell us how it went

We are interested and want to hear how God has used this strategy and ways we can continually improve. If you have time, we’d love to hear what God did at your Share Party.

How many attended? How many were you able to share with? Anything unexpected happen? Post your group photos, changed-life stories, video testimonies, and tell your story about how you are using #FallingPlates here:
