Delegates from 53 African nations joined United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan in Maputo, Mozambique as part of the second African Union Summit to discuss the future of the continent.
Mozambique President Joaquim Alberto Chissano personally invited delegation leaders to a special prayer breakfast co-sponsored by Christian Embassy (a Cru ministry), Abraham International Leadership Ministries and Christian Ministries to the United Nations Community.
The event was moderated by Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo. During the breakfast, Secretary-General Annan called upon Africa's leaders to, "humbly seek the blessings of God on our continent," while Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa shared his personal testimony and read from 2 Chronicles 7:12-14.
The main speaker, international evangelist Ravi Zacharias, spoke convincingly on the wisdom, indeed the necessity, of building a life and nation on the only sure and lasting foundation - Jesus Christ.
At the close of the breakfast, as the delegates prepared to leave for the Summit's first session, President Obasanjo asked everyone to stand and grasp hands in a show of unity as he prayed a prayer of dedication in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. As he closed the meeting, he exclaimed, "I will see you all next year!" and has already agreed to host another Prayer Breakfast at next year's Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Stopping on a long run, they see a film that changes their lives.
