Global Aid Network Rushes Water Filters to the Bahamas

Hurricane Dorian Disaster Relief Assessment and Planning Underway

September 5, 2019

Already being called the “strongest hurricane in modern records for the northwestern Bahamas” by the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Dorian left catastrophic conditions in its wake. Global Aid Network® (GAiN®), the humanitarian partner of Cru®, is working closely with the United Nations, the Bahamian government, and local partners to assess how best to assist in the recovery efforts. GAiN already plans to supply much-needed water filters, as the most immediate need is access to clean water, shelter and food.

“The destruction caused by Hurricane Dorian is devastating to both property and lives,” said Al Goff, president and CEO of GAiN. "Houses were leveled, businesses were destroyed, and water sources were polluted. While we address immediate physical needs, it is our desire to also restore dignity and express the kindness of Jesus to the people of the Bahamas.”

When responding to disasters, GAiN provides water filters, collapsible water containers, food and generators to minister to people. These items will serve families, schools and churches through the duration of the emergency.

Over the course of 25 years of operation, GAiN has leveraged strategic global partnerships and the service of dedicated volunteers to relieve suffering through humanitarian aid in disaster situations such as earthquakes in Nepal and Haiti, and Hurricanes Harvey, Maria, Katrina and Matthew. GAiN serves people around the world as part of Cru’s diverse, 190-country network.
