Cru Military Celebrates 60 Years of Outreach

ORLANDO, Fla., March 6, 2025 — Cru Military is celebrating 60 years of service to veterans and active duty military members. What began in 1965 to serve those deployed in Vietnam has now expanded into a thriving ministry serving recruits, active duty, retired military members and their families in 56 U.S. locations and more than 30 countries worldwide.

For six decades, Cru Military has worked with military chaplains, partner ministries and churches across America in caring for the spiritual well-being of service members and their families before, during and after deployment.

Iin 2024, the ministry saw a remarkable 20% surge in men and women choosing to follow Jesus, evidence of a spiritual hunger among those who serve. But with 2.2 million men and women serving in the military in the U.S. alone, Cru Military leaders understand there is additional work to be done.

“As we look back on the last 60 years, we are so grateful that we have been able to play a part in the story of what God is doing to impact hundreds of thousands of servicemen and servicewomen and their families all around the world,” said Executive Director Brig. Gen. David G. Phillips Jr., who retired from the U.S. Air Force. “Now we’re looking ahead to the next 60 years. How can we continue to provide hope and healing, and empower the military community for decades to come?”

From the Vietnam War to current conflicts with increasing intensities and new technologies, Cru Military faithfully ministers to the military community.

Cru Military was founded in 1965 by retired Col. Jack Fain and Bill Bright, who founded Campus Crusade for Christ, now known as Cru, one of the largest Christian organizations in the world.
