Riding the Wind, Anchored in Faith

Angel and Angyal, two dedicated wind foiling athletes, are remarkable examples of how faith and sports can intertwine in transformative ways.

December 9, 2024

This year, Angel took a bold step by taking a gap year to fully dedicate herself to her sport, frequently travelling abroad for competitions. Last December, both sisters attended Athletes in Action (AIA) Singapore’s Ultimate Training Camp (UTC)—a life-changing experience where athletes learn to apply biblical principles to their sports journey. The camp's highlight was a gruelling 20-hour relay that tested them physically, mentally, and spiritually. During this intense challenge, Angel and Angyal discovered the power of Christcentred values, learning to support their teammates while competing and relying on God under pressure.

Since then, Angel’s growth has been extraordinary. Her faith has deepened and she also took on a leadership role in the team that organised the first-ever UTC in Hong Kong this past June. This pivotal discipleship moment taught her how to live as a Christian athlete while empowering others to do the same. Back in Singapore, Angel has been raising awareness and funds for her sport while connecting other athletes to our ministry, enabling them to experience the same faith-based transformation she has gone through.

Angyal, balancing the demands of homeschooling with her training, spent a month overseas training and competing. The concept of the ‘Audience of One’ resonated deeply with her—competing for God’s glory rather than human recognition. Anchored by a Bible verse she learned at UTC, she used it as a focal point to stay grounded in her faith as she trains and competes. During her trip, Angyal shared the gospel with a curious teammate, who ultimately accepted Christ as her Saviour. In a beautiful act of faith, Angyal gave her bible to this new believer, experiencing firsthand the joy of witnessing God's work through her life.

Their journeys are a reminder that faith is not confined to church—it is lived out daily in every sphere, including sports. Angel and Angyal’s stories challenge us to take bold steps in our own faith, live intentionally, and seize every opportunity to share Christ with others. Their example inspires us to make our faith known wherever God has called us to be.
