Is it possible to have genuine hope when there is so much going wrong in our world? Terrorist attacks, genocide, hate crimes and mass shootings fill our newsfeeds.
Hope is possible, but it can’t depend on things that fail.
We can’t count on our world to come together and eliminate hatred, violence and poverty. What we can do is put our faith in someone who won’t let us down: God.
Some may object and say that if God is real and cares about us, then why doesn’t He end suffering and solve the world’s problems now?
God does have a plan to stamp out hatred, evil and violence; He is a just God who doesn’t ignore wrongdoing. The problem many of us have is that His plan is taking place on His timeline, not ours.
But God promises that one day, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever” (Revelation 21:4, New Living Translation).
God has already set the plan in motion for this promise to happen. He sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to begin to make things right.
The ultimate consequence of all wrongdoing is death, both physical and spiritual. Spiritual death means separation from a perfect God. Jesus bridged the gap between us and God through His sacrificial death on the cross. He came to take away the brokenness and to pay the price for all wrongdoing.
Jesus accomplished this through His death and resurrection. When He rose from the dead, He proved that death has no power over Him and that He has the power to give us eternal life. He made lasting hope possible.
And though this world still has trouble, God wants to help us and give us hope in whatever we are facing. “Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you” (1 Peter 5:7, NLT).
When you have a relationship with an all-powerful God who cares about you personally, genuine hope is possible.
